PNC Bank Warns 5 Million Customers

It seems hackers have taken aim at PNC Bank.
The bank has sent a message to some five million customers warning of a possible cyber attack, the AP is reporting.
So far, the bank's "websites are getting hit with high traffic consistent with computer attacks," and some users have been blocked from the site.
What happens in this case is that hackers will hit the site with "denial-of-service" error pages, which in turn inundates the site with traffic and makes it difficult for customers to log into their accounts.
They've been keeping the attack at bay for now, but it looks like some customers may have been blocked in the process.

In the last week, 58 downtime reports for PNC.com were filed for problems on a site that tracks online outages, according to Fox.
In a statement on PNC's website that was sent to customers late Thursday, the bank assures customers their data is protected by encryption. Even so, it's always better safe than sorry. During the great Global Payment breach earlier this year, affected customers were alerted by their respective banks and prompted to change their log-in information.
If you've noticed suspicious activity on your account, your first step should be to call up your bank's fraud hotline. PNC customers should reach out via Twitter  @PNCBank_Help  if they encounter any problems logging in.
